…it’s The Monkees!
My fave group from my adolescent years is touring the U.S., and is, in fact, coming to my town (almost).
I remember when pictures of the Monkees were printed on the back of Puffa Puffa Rice cereal boxes. My friend Cathy and I hoarded them. Cathy was a fan of Davy Jones; I liked Micky Dolenz (before he lost all his appeal by getting a downright comical afro hairstyle). Cathy and I were once reprimanded by Sister Gemma for propping Davy and Mickey photos on our desks during English class. Yes, we were true fans.
The pictures are long gone, but I’m still listening to Monkees songs. That’s because my son Vincent plays their “Greatest Hits” CD whenever we’re in the car (which is very often). I’d love to take Vincent to see the Monkees in concert, but at $50 a pop for lawn seats a half-mile from the stage, I don’t think it’s going to happen.
